You might have noticed Aisha blogged about a recent trip to Mexico to visit 5 different Tequila distilleries. I was also on that same journey along with some of the best bartenders from around the world. It was an incredible learning experience to say the least. Julio Bermejo from Tommy's Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco was the leader and host of our “Tequila Tour”. We visited Partida, El Tesoro, Cazadores, 4 Copas and Herradura. There was a lot of Tequila sampling involved and many long days spent at the various distilleries learning from master distillers but we all left with a newfound knowledge of the inner workings of a Tequila distillery.
Tequila is truly one of the world’s most hand crafted spirits. From the Jimadors who spend back breaking hours in the fields hand selecting and harvesting Agaves, to the distillers who hand craft their Tequilas with pride and care. What a special place!!
At Partida, we were lucky enough to open a barrel and bottle our own very special 27-month-old Partida Anejo Tequila. They also had a fully stocked Bar and it did not take long for us to get behind it and mix up some very special and delicious cocktails. This again has proven how versatile Tequila is. I would like to thank all of our gracious hosts for inviting us to their distilleries and Julio Bermejo for organizing this amazing Tequila journey. I look forward to my next trip to Mexico to once again witness the Spirit of Tequila.
Salud – Jacques
