I am very proud of the Cocktail Scene that we have in San Francisco, but I am always excited to head to New York and catch up with everything that's going on in the city.
I got to visit some of my old favorites like Employees Only and Pegu Club. Stopped in at Bemelmans at the Carlyle Hotel to enjoy one of Brian Van Flandern's lovely Winter Cocktails. What a beautiful setting that screams New York.
We also had to visit a new restaurant called Bobo in the West Village. Naren Young is behind the bar and always makes a very tasty cocktail. The food here was very good and it has a lovely warm setting. If you are there, you must try one of his Tequila Cocktails. Tell him Jacques from S.F. sent you.
Also, I had to go to PDT (Please Don't Tell) again. This is a Speakeasy style bar hidden in a Hot Dog joint. You have to make a reservation as PDT is fairly small and cozy. You then announce yourself in the phone booth and then will be let in on the other side of the booth. Jim Meehan helped to put together this cocktail list and it is very well done and worth it to try every drink on the list. The whole bar crew takes a lot of pride in what they do and it is always great to see one of their friendly professional faces behind the bar. I cannot wait for my return to PDT and New York. Cheers to Manhattan and all it's brilliant Drinking Institutions. - Jacques
