Summer brings about many rituals to Coloradans; opening day of baseball season, skiing in shorts at A-Basin, white water rafting and kayaking, hiking, biking, volleyball in the park and pool parties. There are few things that we here in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains love more than the getting outside after the long dark winter.
Perhaps my favorite activity is whiling a summer day away on one of the many roof top patios that adorn the city. From the three distinct patios of Lodo’s Bar & Grill, to Uptown Downtown, to late night at the Funky Buddha, or the beer garden at My Brother’s Bar, the nightlife and cocktail culture of Denver spills into the outdoors as soon as Mother Nature relinquishes her wintry grip.
The true brilliance of these patios are the stunning views of the Rockies and the skyline of the city. Several patios around the baseball park are ideal for afternoon gatherings as the sounds of baseball from nearby Coors Field add a feel of excitement.
Outlying area bars have even grander vistas. Lodo’s in Westminster offers a view of the Flatirons and Eldorado Canyon. Afternoons can be spent sipping margaritas, while watching fluffy clouds build along the foothills and drift across a clear blue Colorado sky. For the more adventurous souls, there are ideal places to watch an afternoon thunderstorm streak lightning across the horizon.
Night time brings the outdoor crowd to such venues as the Funky Buddha, Spill, The Pour House, and 5 Degrees. DJs set the vibe with a variety of music and bartenders pour creative concoctions as the crowd drinks and dances into the wee hours of the morning. Cheers!
