There is a new Vodka in the US and this time it's as smooth as can be and made only from the heart.
Kanon Vodka, the organic, eco-friendly Swedish spirit, launched this summer in the US making its first appearance throughout New York. This clean, balanced product has a strong history dating back to 1580 at the Gripsholm Distillery.
Distilled only once from locally grown organic wheat and fresh spring water, Kanon has a distinct taste and is extremely smooth without that typical 'vodka burn' that everyone despises so much about many vodkas. While distilling, the producers only use the heart of the product, removing the heads and tails which are then donated to bio-friendly ethanol running vehicles.
Stefanie Marco, US Director of Marketing and Mixology for Gripsholm Distillery, is excited about the launch into the US. She helps promote the vodka with inventive cocktail recipes, bringing out the smoothness and uniqueness of the product.
As for now, Kanon can be found in various locations in the Hamptons on Long Island and in New York City at the Jane Hotel, The SoHo Grand and Tribeca Grand. Next step...California!
Look for Kanon and try this recipe below by Stefanie Marco:
Reverse Mojito
Add 1.5 small packets of Knox Unflavored Gelatin to 1/2 cup cold freshly squeezed lime juice and 1/4 cup of sugar and stir.
Add 1/4 cup of boiling mint tea and dissolve gelatin
Finally add 1 cup Kanon Organic Vodka
Cover in a square pan or small square tupperware container. The level should measure about 1.5 inches in depth.
Place into the freezer or refrigerator. The should be gelled in about 30 minutes in a freezer and in about an hour with refrigeration
When firm, slice them length and width wise into small 1 inch squares. (makes about 24 servings)
Carefully remove each square and place onto amuse bouche spoons
Using granulated sugar cover the top of the gelee.
Take a sodium bicarbonate powder or crushed unflavored Alka Seltzer powder and sprinkle just under a dime sized amount on top of the sugared square.
Serve on spoons with a slice of lime on the side, instruct your guests to activate the fizz squeezing the lime juice over top.
"We call this 'reverse mojito' because instead of tasting the liquor first follwed by mint soda and lime , we will taste the soda first followed by lime, mint and the long sweet finish of Kanon Organic Vodka."
